Urine Drug Testing

Urine drug testing is the Gold Standard of the industry, and has been relied upon by courts and employers alike for decades. A positive drug test, collected by a trained and certified collector, processed by a SAMSHA certified laboratory, confirmed by the GC/MS process and approved by a Medical Review Officer is almost irrefutable evidence of drug use.

While other types of testing can only detect a limited number of substances, urine testing can be set up to find an almost unlimited number of abused drugs. A standard drug screening panel might include:

  • Marijuana
  • Cocaine
  • Opiates
  • PCP
  • Amphetamines
  • Methamphetamines
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Barbiturates

Span can also arrange testing for additional substances, including Ecstasy, Oxycontin, antidepressants and other prescription drugs.

Alcohol can be another substance of abuse and can be detected through blood, breath or urine testing. The only reason to ever use blood alcohol or breathalyzer tests is to determine intoxication. Since alcohol quickly leaves the bloodstream and is quickly undetectable through breathalyzer testing, the best tests for determining alcohol use are urine alcohol tests. Span offers two different types:

  • Standard urine alcohol testing(detection window 6 to 24 hours). Positive urine alcohol tests that are also positive for glucose, may point to an individual being diabetic rather than one who is positive for alcohol.
  • EtG urine alcohol testing (detection window up to 72 hours). These tests are more expensive, but do have a much larger detection window. In addition, they have the added benefit of detecting only ingested alcohol, therefore not inappropriately tagging a diabetic with a positive alcohol result.
