Drug Testing Solutions
Medical Review Officer (MRO)
Many times the drug screen results are not enough to determine abuse. The client claims to have a prescription that caused a positive result, claims to have been in close proximity to others using drugs and triggered a positive through passive inhalation, or is on several different prescriptions which may indicate “doctor shopping.” In those instances Span can offer Medical Review Officer Services.
A MRO is a licensed physician, either MD or DO, who has undergone additional training to become certified as a Medical Review Officer under federal guidelines. The MRO will review results and other records, interview the client and take other actions necessary to interpret the particular circumstances surrounding a contested positive drug screen. She or he will then issue an opinion as the whether the positive is a true positive or should be seen as a negative drug screen. The MRO opinion is admissible in court.
